HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 c27
60. Sir F. SANDERSON

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider the formation of a national transport board with a view to solving the economic problem of road versus rail competition by the co-ordination of all transport in such a way that road motor transport shall be subject to the same regulations and conditions as is the case with the railways

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Lieut.-Colonel Head lam)

The Government is not prepared to favour nationalisation of the means of transport on the lines suggested in the minority report of the Royal Commission on Transport. As regards the better regulation of the transport of goods by road, the Government have under consideration the recommendations of the Royal Commission and the recently issued report of the Rail and Road Conference.
