HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 c29
49. Mr. CHORLTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can give the comparative figures of increased revenue and increased employment resulting from the imposition of duties under the Import Duties Act?

Dr. BURGIN

The approximate amount of revenue collected under the Import Duties Act, 1932, from 1st March, 1932, to 30th November, 1932, was £16,300,000. It is not possible to furnish any figures of increased employment resulting from the operation of the Act.

Mr. CHORLTON

If the rate of duty were increased, would it not result in more employment

Mr. THORNE

Who pays this extra £816,000,000?
