HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 c20
29. Mr. PERKINS

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the fact that assistant sub-postmasters, auxiliary postal workers and part-time sorters in the General Post Office are eligible to sit for the Post Office examinations but that whole-time temporary workers are not entitled to sit for this examination, he will arrange for this examination to be open to all postal workers?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Kingsley Wood)

These examinations are intended to provide a necessary and much desired outlet and advancement for postmen and others holding a permanent or quasi-permanent situation in the Post Office, and under these circumstances I cannot see my way to throw them open to persons employed in a purely temporary capacity.
