HC Deb 12 December 1932 vol 273 cc27-8
40. Mr. BATEY

asked the hon. Member for Central Leeds, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, if, having regard to the agricultural losses, the Commissioners will consider the cancellation of tithe rents for a period of five years?

Mr. DENMAN (Second Church Estates Commissioner)

The answer is in the negative.

41. Mr. BATEY

asked the hon. Member for Central Leeds, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, if he will state the amount received by the Commissioners for tithe rents, royalty rents in coal, lead, and other minerals, and ground rents for the last available year in Durham County?

Mr. DENMAN

These particulars were given, for the year 1930–31, in my answer to the hon. Member's question on the 26th April, 1932. The figures for the year 1931–32 are not yet available. They should be ready within a, few weeks, and I will then send them to the hon. Member.

42. Mr. BATEY

asked the hon. Member for Central Leeds, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, if the Commissioners have yet considered the lowering or cancellation of mining royalties in Durham County?

Mr. DENMAN

The Ecclesiastical Commissioners are constantly considering applications from their colliery lessees for concessions to meet difficulties.
