HC Deb 01 December 1932 vol 272 cc970-1
48. Mr. LECKIE

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the judgment given on the 24th instant by the Railway Rates Tribunal refusing to sanction an arrangement whereby the Great Western Railway contracts to convey about 40,000 tons of goods for an Avonmouth firm for a flat rate different from its statutory charges; and whether he will bring in a Bill freeing railway companies from such statutory obligations as are out of date for present-day requirements?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

My attention has been called to a judgment on this point delivered on the 24th November. My hon. Friend will, of course, be prepared to consider any representations which the railway companies may wish to make to him as to the general bearings of the decision.
