§ 9. Mr. GROVESasked the Home Secretary if the police officers responsible for licensing omnibuses attend the tests undertaken in the yards of the companies to ensure that such vehicles are not top-heavy and that the braking power is adequate?
§ Sir H. SAMUELAll new types of omnibuses for use in the Metropolitan area undergo a tilting test, at which a responsible officer is present to ensure conformity with the prescribed standard of stability. The brakes of all omnibuses are subject to a severe test before licences are issued and their maintenance in thoroughly good order is one of the conditions of the licence. The brakes are tested under service conditions at frequent intervals by the police.
§ Mr. GROVESDo those conditions apply to all vehicles plying for hire, including tramcars?
§ Sir H. SAMUELPerhaps the hon. Member would put down a question upon that point.
