HC Deb 28 April 1932 vol 265 c567
45. Mr. LIDDALL

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the fact that 20 committees and commissions appointed by the two previous Governments are still sitting and that six commissions and committees have been set up by the present Government, he will take the necessary steps to have a time limit fixed for all committees?

The LORD PRESIDENT of the COUNCIL (Mr. Baldwin)

It would not be practicable to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion. It is of course possible to ask committees to expedite their work, or parts of it, and this is done where desirable.

Mr. C. WILLIAMS

Is it not practicable to sack the whole lot?

Mr. BUCHANAN

Is it not possible to appoint someone as the director of commissions and committees?

46. Captain ERSKINE-BOLST for

asked the Prime Minister whether there is any co-operation between the Tariff Advisory Committee and the Economic Advisory Committee; and whether the functions of the latter have in any way been affected by the appointment of the former?

Mr. BALDWIN

As regards the first part of the question, the Tariff Advisory Committee is an independent statutory body which has power to consult with any Government Department should it think it desirable to do so; the answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
