HC Deb 28 April 1932 vol 265 c569
51. Mr. TINKER

asked the Minister of Transport if he is in a position to give figures of accident cases under Section 36, Sub-section (2), of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, where hospital treatment has been given to injured persons; and what amount of money has been paid by insurance companies to hospitals for such attention?

Mr. PYBUS

I have considered the possibility of securing the information for which the hon. Gentleman asks, but regret that I do not feel that I could justify the time and labour which such an inquiry would involve.

Mr. TINKER

Is the Minister of Transport aware that the Act has not given satisfaction in this particular? Some of my constituents want him to do something in regard to it.

Sir JOHN HASLAM

Has the right hon. Gentleman any reason to doubt the accuracy of the figures I gave him which were provided by the British Medical Association, showing that only 10 per cent. of the money expended by hospitals was recovered from the insurance companies; and will he take steps to see that insurance companies do justice to the hospitals?

Mr. PYBUS

I have no information to show that insurance companies are evading the provisions of the Act.
