HC Deb 25 April 1932 vol 265 c23
35 and 36. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture (1) whether importers or consumers of bacon and bacon products were consulted before selecting members of the Bacon Commission;

(2) whether milk and milk-product importers or consumers were consulted before the members of the Milk Commission were selected?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The answer to both questions is in the negative.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Will the right hon. Gentleman say why neither importers nor retailers not consumers were considered before the selection of the names was made?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The selection of each Commission's names was made in order to get an effective Commission before which all the interests concerned might give evidence.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Why was it found necessary to place landowners on the Commission, seeing that the people who actually deal in these products are not represented?
