HC Deb 25 April 1932 vol 265 cc15-6
45. Mr. CHALMERS

asked the Prime Minister whether he has considered Chapter 10 of the Report of the Machinery of Government Committee, 1918; and whether he will take steps to carry into effect the recommendation that the Lord Chancellor's Department should come under the Home Office both in the interests of economy and to remedy defects in the present legal system?

Mr. BALDWIN

The proposal of the Committee to which my hon. Friend refers was not that stated in the question but was a proposal for the creation of a Ministry of Justice. I am not satisfied that this would lead to any economy and I am not prepared to take any action in the present circumstances.
