HC Deb 20 April 1932 vol 264 cc1466-7
33. Sir W. DAVISON

asked the President of the Board of Trade the total amount of the claims of British nationals against the Soviet Government in respect of cash and property in Russia appropriated without compensation?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

In so far as amounts are indicated by claimants, the total claims recorded in the Russian Claims Department amount to upwards of £260,000,000 and about 1,000,000,000 roubles. There are also various amounts expressed in other currencies, and claims the amount of which for various reasons cannot be indicated.

Sir W. DAVISON

Can my hon. Friend say, roughly, for how many years these unfortunate people have been without their money, much of which was simply in the form of cash balances at banks which had no political significance whatever?
