asked the Minister of Health the number of persons in receipt of Poor Law relief in Lancashire, giving the total amount paid during 1928, 1929, 1930 and 1931, respectively?

The total number of persons, men, women and children, in receipt of Poor relief, excluding casuals and persons in receipt of domiciliary medical relief only, in the geographical county of Lancashire on the 2nd April, 1932, was 135,212. The amounts of out-relief paid in the county during the financial years ending on the 31st March, 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1932 were £1,914,243, £1,918,897, £1,542,866 and approximately £1,908,000, respectively. The first two amounts relate to the union county which was not quite co-extensive with the geographical county.
