HC Deb 20 April 1932 vol 264 cc1470-1
42. Mr. PARKINSON

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of schemes that have been postponed or cancelled for the building of new schools and extension of school buildings, giving the approximate cost of same, in England and Lancashire, respectively, since August, 1931?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Ramsbotham)

My right hon. Friend is not in a position to state the total number of proposals which were being considered by local education authorities before last August, and have since been dropped or deferred, but, so far as concerns cases submitted to the Board of Education, he has, for England as a whole, information as to 95 school building proposals, representing an estimated expenditure of £1,228,000, which have been dropped or deferred since the end of August. Corresponding figures for Lancashire are eight proposals estimated to cost £94,000.
