HC Deb 19 April 1932 vol 264 cc1399-400
44. Mr. TINKER

asked the Minister of Labour the number of public assistance committees his Department have communicated with in respect of their application of the means test; and will he say what has been the result?

Mr. HUDSON

I am not clear what the hon. Member means. A great many points of detail with regard to administration have naturally arisen in all parts of the country, and I could not attempt to give any exhaustive list.

Mr. TINKER

May I take it that there are to be no communications with those authorities which are not carrying out the instructions or wishes of the Department?

Mr. HUDSON

We are in communication with the authorities which are not carrying out the letter and spirit of the Act.

Mr. TINKER

Do these inquiries include any of the authorities where the percentage of dismissals or disallowances are very high?

Mr. HUDSON

I should like notice of that question.
