HC Deb 19 April 1932 vol 264 cc1384-5
18. Captain HUNTER

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is able to state the percentage of the total imports of wool into this country originating from Australia?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

During the years 1929 to 1931, the proportion of the total imports of raw sheep's and lambs' wool into the United Kingdom that was consigned from Australia was 33.4 per cent. by weight and 35.5 per cent. by value, while the proportion of the retained imports that was consigned from Australia was 37.2 per cent. by weight and 39.4 per cent. by value. It is believed that all but a negligible amount of this wool consigned from Australia originated in that country.
