HC Deb 13 April 1932 vol 264 cc819-20
48. Sir CHARLES CAYZER

asked the Home Secretary the number of special constables who have offered their services in London on a voluntary basis at the present time for ordinary police work; and the districts in which they have been specially asked to assist?

Mr. STANLEY

Special constables have not been asked to offer their services for ordinary police work or to assist the police in any particular district; but an opportunity has been afforded for a few at a time to volunteer for a short period of training. My right hon. Friend explained the position in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for North Southwark (Mr. Strauss) on 7th April.
