HC Deb 28 September 1931 vol 257 cc23-4
30. Mr. CROOM-JOHNSON

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the postage rates from the United States of America to this country were increased to five cents for ordinary post letters as from the 1st September, 1931; whether, under the Universal Postal Union Convention, any increase in the corresponding rate from this country to the United States becomes necessary; and, if not, whether he will consider increasing the rate in order to assist the national finances?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative. It is not proposed to make any increase in the British postage rates to the United States at present; but I intend to keep this matter under consideration.
