HC Deb 28 September 1931 vol 257 c24
31. Mr. SIMMONS

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has under consideration the provision of up-to-date branch post office accommodation for Erdington, Birmingham; and if, in view of the growing population, he will expedite the matter?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

It is my intention to provide a new post office and telephone exchange at Erdington and I hope that building operations will commence as soon as possession can be obtained of a site which is being acquired from the Birmingham Corporation. I regret that the negotiations with the Corporation have proved somewhat protracted.

Mr. HANNON

Will my right hon. Friend see that these facilities extend to the rest of Birmingham?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

This deals with a new telephone exchange in Erdington.

Mr. McSHANE

Will the right hon. Gentleman seriously extend his inquiries into the incomplete facilities in most towns? They are totally inadequate.
