HC Deb 28 September 1931 vol 257 c36
61. Sir RENNELL RODD

asked the Home Secretary whether, in the absence of any generally expressed desire in this country for a change in the calendar, which would introduce an eight-day week at the end of December with one blank day, making the appointed day of rest in certain religious communities nomadic instead of attached to a definite weekday, the Secretary of State will take pre cautions that this country should not be committed to a prejudicial decision by the appointment to the committee for the reform of the calendar, which will meet at Geneva on the 12th October, of a representative who has already definitely pronounced himself as in favour of an eight-day week?

Sir H. SAMUEL

The answer is in the affirmative.
