HC Deb 23 September 1931 vol 256 c1647
50. Mr. DIXEY

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the need for tariffs to redress the present trade balance and of the interest widely felt in the country and of the urgency of the situation, he will give time at once to the House of Commons to enable Members to vote on the question?

Mr. S. BALDWIN

As I explained in moving the Time Table Motion yesterday, it is necessary that all available time in the immediate present should be devoted to completing the further stages of the Finance and Economy Bill.

Mr. DIXEY

Is not the right hon. Gentleman well aware that the whole of the provisions of the Economy Bill are not deemed to be sufficient without these tariffs?

Mr. SPEAKER

Lieut.-Colonel Moore.
