HC Deb 10 September 1931 vol 256 c286
31. Mr. O. LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any statement to make as to the progress of the national mark system so far as Scottish-produced beef is concerned?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

A statement on this subject was issued the Press at the beginning of August and I shall send the hon. Member a copy of it. Since then, the position has improved, the number of sides of beef presented for marking in August showing an increase of 400 over the July figure. The progress made by the grading and marking schemes in England and Scotland is to be reviewed by an inter-departmental committee which was recently appointed and which will hold its first meeting next week.
