HC Deb 26 November 1931 vol 260 cc486-7
29. Mr. MORGAN JONES

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can state, in regard to the Sheffield and Attercliffe Exchanges, respectively, the periods of unemployment signed by civilians and by ex-service men who have been placed on relief work, and the numbers of civilians and of ex-service men suitable for relief work who, having been unemployed for a considerable time, are upon the waiting lists?

Sir H. BETTERTON

I regret that the information for which the hon. Member asks is not readily available, and would not be obtained without an undue expenditure of time and labour.

Mr. JONES

Does not the right hon. Gentleman feel that there is a special case for some relaxation of the rule with regard to priority for work of this character in areas like Sheffield, in view of the great number of people who were reserved for munition work there during the War?

Sir H. BETTERTON

That is a question with which I cannot deal in a supplementary answer to a supplementary question. If the hon. Member would like to put down another question, I will give him an answer.
