HC Deb 26 November 1931 vol 260 c486
22. Mr. JOEL

asked the Minister of Labour the number of boys and girls now drawing unemployment benefit and in attendance at the different juvenile bureaux; whether these boys and girls are, in all cases where adequate provision exists, attending a local instruction centre; and, if not, what steps he is taking to enforce their attendance?

Sir H. BETTERTON

On the 16th November, 28,999 boys and 13,642 girls were registered for employment and claiming unemployment benefit at the local offices of the Ministry, and at the juvenile employment bureaux of local education authorities in Great Britain. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative, except in regard to a small number of juveniles who have been excused attendance for special reasons. The third part of the question does not, therefore arise.
