HC Deb 23 November 1931 vol 260 cc39-40
55. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will reconsider the present form of publishing the London Telephone Directory, in view of the inconvenience caused by the necessity of using two volumes, one of which is always out of date?

Sir K. WOOD

I regret that the size of the Directory makes it impossible to revert to a single volume. My hon. and gallant Friend is under a misapprehension in assuming that the publication of the two parts at different times means that it is more out-of-date than if the two parts were issued simultaneously. In point of fact, it is, on the average, less out of date, as new entries can be accepted at a date closer to the date of issue.

Captain CROOKSHANK

Will my right hon. Friend give us an assurance that, in future, at any rate, the convenience of its customers will be considered by the Post Office?

Sir K. WOOD

I will certainly do my best in that direction.
