HC Deb 18 November 1931 vol 259 c827
1. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what agreements, conventions, or treaties approved by the Assembly of the League of Nations in September it is proposed to sign, accede to, or ratify on behalf of the British Government?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Eden)

Two conventions were opened for signature at the recent meeting of the Assembly of the League of Nations, the Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, and the Convention to Improve the Means of Preventing War. The former convention has been signed on behalf of His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom, but my right hon. Friend is advised that legislation will be required before it can be ratified. The question whether His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom should sign the latter convention is still under consideration.

Mr. MANDER

Can the Under-Secretary say whether the Armaments Truce is now in operation?

Mr. EDEN

As far as I know, yes.
