HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 c2193
43. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Agriculture how the area at present under sugar-beet in Great Britain compares with that at this time last year?

Dr. ADDISON

Provisional figures furnished by beet-sugar factories indicate that the acreage of beet contracted for 1931 is about 230,000 acres. The actual area in 1930 was 348,920 acres.

Captain MACDONALD

What are the Government doing to encourage the growing of sugar-beet?
