HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 c2187
36. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Health the number of houses under construction sanctioned under the various Housing Acts; whether the progress being made by the various local authorities is satisfactory; and will he make a statement?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The number in England and Wales on the let instant was 36,421. I have set out my views on the present position in circular letters which were issued to local authorities on 8th instant, and I am sending my hon. Friend copies of those circulars.

Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how that number compares with previous years?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I cannot say without notice, except that it is about 40 per cent. higher than a year ago.
