HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 cc2178-9
18. Mr. REMER

asked the Home Secretary how many prosecutions were made against motorists for exceeding the speed limit between Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner; and how many prosecutions for similar offences along Constitution Hill?

Mr. CLYNES

The following are the figures for the 12 months ended 31st March last:

Between March Arch and Hyde Park Corner (i.e., East Carriage Road, Hyde Park) 237
Constitution Hill 305
Sir W. BRASS

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think, as these figures are so large, that it would be better to have the police in uniform to act as a deterrent instead of hiding them so that that public do not know where they are?

Mr. CLYNES

I am not an authority on that point, but it is a point worth considering.
