HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 cc2172-3
9. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the increase of the Metropolitan Police Force during the previous 12 months, any further increase of this force is at present under consideration?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Clynes)

I presume that my hon. Friend refers to the increase of 250 men which was authorised in 1929 and completed in 1930. The question of any further augmentation is still under consideration.

Mr. EDE

May I ask whether the night hon. Gentleman has considered the redistribution of this enlarged force so as to give greater protection to those areas within the Metropolitan Police district which are outside the administrative county of London?

Mr. CLYNES

The hon. Member may have gathered from previous answers that the question of re-distribution is being considered and that we are doing our best in the matter.

Mr. DAY

Does this augmentation include women police?

Mr. CLYNES

No.
