HC Deb 21 May 1931 vol 252 cc2194-5
48. Dr. HUNTER

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that census enumerators in Scotland who had been previously unemployed have, in addition to the loss of three days' insurance benefit, to wait eight or 10 weeks for the receipt of the fixed fee of £2; and will he take what steps he can to remedy this grievance?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Westwood)

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I have been in communication with the Registrar-General on the subject, and can assure my hon. Friend that the work of dealing with the claims of the enumerators is being expedited to the utmost.

Dr. HUNTER

Can the hon. Gentleman give me any idea of the rate of the expedition?

Mr. WESTWOOD

Yes; up to the present time over 200 districts out of 1,076 districts have practically had their claims settled.
