HC Deb 19 May 1931 vol 252 c1766
69. Major WOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the King of Norway has ever been invited to adhere to the North Sea Fisheries Convention, 1882, as appears to be contemplated by the additional article to the convention?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Dalton)

His Majesty's Government suggested to the Norwegian Government, shortly after the separation of Norway from Sweden, that Norway should accede to the convention. The Norwegian Government, however, felt unable to do so.

Major WOOD

Will the hon. Gentleman represent to the Foreign Secretary the desirability of extending a further. invitation to Norway?

Mr. DALTON

I will convey the hon. Gentleman's request, but I must warn him that the Norwegian Government impose a four-mile limit, which is contrary to our limit.
