HC Deb 14 May 1931 vol 252 cc1368-9
76. Mr. GRANVILLE

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will take steps to alter the present constitution of the Suffolk County Wages Committee in order to prevent the reduction of agricultural workers' wages to 28s. per week?

Mr. PALING

The decision of the Suffolk Agricultural Wages Committee to reduce wages to 28s. per week has been embodied in an Order made by the Agricultural Wages Board at its meeting on the 11th instant to come into operation as from the 7th June. As my right hon. Friend informed the hon. Member, in reply to his question on the 7th May, the Minister has no power under the Agricultural Wages (Regulation) Act to take any further action in the matter.

Major COLFOX

Is this the fulfilment of the Socialist party's promises to agricultural workers?

Mr. GRANVILLE

Owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise this matter on the Motion for Adjournment to-day week.
