HC Deb 13 May 1931 vol 252 c1173
17. Sir NAIRNE STEWART SANDEMAN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what the sources of supply are for the petrol and oil which is consumed by the Navy?

Mr. AMMON

The sources of supply are world-wide and are chiefly Persia and Trinidad. Supplies are also obtained from creosote and shale oils produced at home.

Sir N. STEWART SANDEMAN

Does any of the oil for the Navy come from Russia?

Mr. AMMON

I have already given the reply asked for.

Sir N. STEWART SANDEMAN

Then we may take it that certain supplies are being drawn from Russia?

HON. MEMBERS

Why not?

Mr. LOUIS SMITH

May we take it that the consumption of oil derived from coal at home is on the increase?

Mr. SPEAKER

That does not arise.
