HC Deb 13 May 1931 vol 252 c1163
13. Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information as to the operations which have been recently carried out by Soviet troops against the Moslem population of Caucasia; and if he will take steps to bring the matter before the League of Nations with a view to an inquiry being set on foot into the matter?

Mr. DALTON

My right hon. Friend has received no information of any such operations. The second part of the question, therefore, does not arise.

Sir F. HALL

Am I to understand that the Government are unaware of the fact that 40,000 troops have been dispatched to the Caucasus and has the Under-Secretary not seen anything about it?

Mr. DALTON

I have only seen a paragraph in the "Daily Mail."

Sir F. HALL

If it had been in the "Daily Herald," I suppose it would have been authentic.
