HC Deb 13 May 1931 vol 252 cc1175-6
15. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can now inform the House what is the result of his communication to the Australian authorities regarding the reduction by a special Income Tax of the pay of Royal Naval officers serving in the Royal Australian Navy?

Mr. AMMON

A reply has been received which raises many questions of complexity, and it is certain to take some time before any settlement is reached.

Mr. SMITHERS

Can the hon. Gentleman give me any idea when he will be able to give some definite information?

Mr. AMMON

I am afraid I cannot. Certain proposals have been received from the Australian Naval Board which are being considered by the Admiralty.
