HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 cc18-9
33. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether it is the policy of the Government to bring British market-garden and soft-food products and foodstuffs manufactured from them within the scope of the national-mark scheme; and, if so, when he proposes to introduce the necessary legislation?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Dr. Addison)

Market-garden produce already comes within the scope of the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act, 1928. I have under consideration proposals to extend the scope of the Act to certain classes of products manufactured therefrom.

Mr. SMITHERS

Will the right hon. Gentleman bring the legislation before the House as soon as possible in view of the fact that the season for the selling of market-garden produce is approaching, and prevent the dumping of Russian goods into this country?

Dr. ADDISON

I hope that appropriate legislation will be before the House shortly, and that it will be entirely non-controversial.
