HC Deb 04 May 1931 vol 252 cc16-7
26. Mr. MATTERS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any recent obligation has been entered into between Great Britain and Belgium with regard to assistance being required to be given by the British Army to Belgium in case of war?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

No, Sir; not since the Treaty of Locarno.

Mr. MATTERS

Has the attention of my right hon. Friend been drawn to the speech of the Belgian Minister of Defence, and can he say whether it is the view of His Majesty's Government that the British Army must be landed in Belgium in the event of war?

Mr. HENDERSON

I suppose he was expressing his opinion as to what he thought would be the effect of the Locarno Treaty.
