5. Major GRAHAM POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether ho is in a position to give the names of the committee to be appointed in India to consider matters connected with the establishment of an Indian Sandhurst?

Mr. BENN

I have seen Press reports, but I have not yet received a complete list from the Government of India.

6. Brigadier - General CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Secretary of State for India what are the races to which the present Indian gentlemen holding commissions in His Majesty's Army belong?

Mr. BENN

I am afraid that complete details are not available, but I am circulating such information as I have.

Following is the statement:

According to a statement made in the Indian Legislative Assembly on 2nd March, 1931, relating to the Indian cadets who have been commissioned during the last five years, 41 cadets were commissioned from Sandhurst between January, 1926, and December, 1930. Thirteen of these cadets were Mussalmans, five came from the Punjab, six from the North-West Frontier Province, and two from other parts of India. Out of the 41 cadets, 29, or just over 70 per cent., belonged to races from which the Indian Army is recruited. Eleven, that is 27 per cent., are Mussalmans from the Punjab and the North-West Frontier Province.
