HC Deb 16 March 1931 vol 249 cc1653-4
36. Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will state the proportion of wheat to the total agricultural produce of this country in the last available pre-War year and 1929?

Dr. ADDISON

The value of the wheat crop sold off farms in England and Wales in 1908–9 was estimated to be 6.4 per cent. of the total agricultural output for that year. For 1929–30 the proportion is estimated at 4 per cent. It is estimated that at the present time about 75 per cent. of the wheat crop is sold off farms, compared with 80 per cent. before the War.
