HC Deb 16 March 1931 vol 249 c1656
42. Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of applications that have been made to purchase their holdings by ex-service men tenants of county councils, in accordance with leaflet No. 197 of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the number of such applications that have been refused?

Dr. ADDISON

I have no information as to the total number of applications made by tenants to purchase their holdings under section 11 of the Land Settlement (Facilities) Act, 1919, but returns obtained in 1929 showed that during the years 1927 to 1929, 79 holdings were sold under the section referred to. The number of cases in which councils applied for and obtained the Minister's consent to refuse the tenant's application to purchase during the same period was four, and the total number of such cases since 1919 is 14. The above figures include civilian as well as ex-service tenants, for whom no separate figures are available.
