HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1387-8
86. Sir F. HALL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give an approximate estimate of the number of persons who have been directly or indirectly employed as a result of the total exports to Soviet Russia of United Kingdom goods and productions during 1930, valued at £6,500,000?

Mr. SHINWELL

I regret that this information is not available.

Sir F. HALL

Is the Minister aware that because of the promise that the restoration of trade with Russia would considerably reduce unemployment, many Socialists were returned at the last General Election?

Mr. HAYCOCK

Is it not a fact—[Interruption.]

Mr. SPEAKER

Major Colville.

Mr. HAYCOCK

May I ask a supplementary question?

Mr. SPEAKER

I have called the next question.

Mr. HAYCOCK

I was on my feet, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. SPEAKER

I did not hear the hon. Member.

Sir F. HALL

Is that not because there is so much noise?
