HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1356-7
5. Viscount ELMLEY

asked the Minister of Labour if she is aware that many Norfolk fishermen pay their unemployment insurance contributions with no chance of deriving any benefit therefrom; and if she will take special steps to make it known in this area that these men may claim exemption from paying these contributions?

Miss BONDFIELD

My information is that the men concerned are, in general, aware of their right to claim exemption, but if the Noble Lord has evidence to the contrary I shall be glad to consider it.

Viscount ELMLEY

Will the right hon. Lady be good enough to send special instructions to the Employment Exchanges in those areas, so that these misunderstandings can be avoided?

Miss BONDFIELD

We have done so.
