§ Miss BONDFIELDThe total number of persons recorded as unemployed in Germany at 15th February, 1931, was approximately 4,991,000. In France, it has been estimated officially that, at the beginning of January, 1931, there were about 350,000 persons totally and 1,000,000 partially unemployed.

§ 18. Sir A. POWNALL (for Sir ARTHUR STEEL-MAITLAND)asked the Minister of Labour what was the number of unemployed in Germany on the latest date available, and the estimated number of agricultural workers included in that figure?
§ Miss BONDFIELDAt the end of January, 1931, the latest date for which unemployment statistics analysed by industries are available, the total number of persons recorded as unemployed in Germany was 4,887,000, and of this number 238,359 belonged to agriculture, horticulture, cattle-breeding, forestry and fishery. Separate figures for agriculture alone are not published.
§ 20. Sir A. POWNALL (for Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND)asked the Minister of Labour what is the number of women engaged in insured industry in Germany other than agriculture; and to what extent this number is in excess of what it would be if the proportion between male and female workers were the same as in insured industries in Great Britain?
