§ 44. Sir K. WOODasked the Minister of Health whether he proposes to make any statement concerning the recent conclusions of the committee which has inquired into national health and other insurance schemes?
§ Mr. GREENWOODI am not in a position to make any statement on the subject.
§ Sir K. WOODDoes the right hon. Gentleman propose at some early date to make a statement on this matter?
§ Mr. GREENWOODThe right hon. Gentleman knows as well as I do that it is not customary to disclose confidential reports.
§ Sir K. WOODIs not this a special case? Did not the right hon. Gentleman state in regard to the prolongation of the Insurance Act that this particular committee was considering it and that they would probably make an announcement themselves?
§ 49. Sir K. WOODasked the Minister of Health if he has taken any steps recently by regulations or otherwise, to afford further protection to the National Health Insurance Funds against abuse; and if he proposes to take any further action in the matter?
§ Mr. GREENWOODYes, Sir. Two important changes in the Medical Benefit Regulations have already been made, the first with reference to the transfer of insured persons from one doctor to another, and the second with reference to lax certification. I am also proposing, at an early date, to issue to all insurance doctors a Memorandum, and to all approved societies a circular, giving the results of the recent investigations into the increase of sickness and disablement benefit claims and advice on medical certification and the supervision of claims, respectively.
