HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 c1389
89. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department what foreign Governments are participating in the main part of the forth-coming International Colonial Exhibition in Paris; and whether the decision that His Majesty's Government shall not participate in this exhibition can be reconsidered?

Mr. SHINWELL

My hon. Friend is informed that, in addition to the French Colonies, the Governments of Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United States of America are erecting pavilions. I am afraid the answer to the last part of the question must be in the negative.

Mr. SOMERVILLE

In view of the success of the recent trade exhibition in this country, would it not be advisable for the Government to take part in this exhibition so as to secure orders for this country?

Mr. SHINWELL

I understand that a very full answer was given to the previous question by my right hon. Friend.
