asked the Prime Minister whether, in order to place the representatives of the British Government at the Imperial Conference at Ottawa in a position to negotiate for an imperial economic policy, he will now give notice to denounce the tariff truce?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Commercial Convention, or tariff truce, is not yet in force, and the question of its denunciation does not, therefore, arise.

Major COLVILLE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the feeling that exists in the Dominions that His Majesty's Government are contemplating tying their hands in this way?

The PRIME MINISTER

No. As a matter of fact, I know that that feeling does not exist on the part of anybody who knows the facts.

Major COLVILLE

Is it not the case that such action would effectually prevent us from taking any reciprocal action in line with—[Interruption.]
