HC Deb 12 March 1931 vol 249 cc1376-7
59. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that cases have occurred recently of local authorities forbidding tenants on housing estates a free choice of gas or electricity for lighting, cooking purposes, etc.; and what attitude he is adopting In such cases?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply given on the 26th ultimo to a question on the subject by my hon. Friend, the Member for Plaistow (Mr. W. Thorne) of which I am sending him a copy.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

Has the right hon. Gentleman been able to take any further action in this matter?

Mr. GREENWOOD

No, I have taken the line of leaving it to local authorities.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Have local authorities been informed that is is undesirable to differentiate between one industry and another?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I cannot generalise on that, as circumstances vary in different areas.

Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

Is this a practical example of Socialist principles at work?
