HC Deb 09 March 1931 vol 249 c799
52. Mr. HOFFMAN

asked the Minister of Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the wholesale destruction of fish in the River Ouse from pollution; and what steps he proposes to take to deal with the nuisance?

Dr. ADDISON

As there is a case at present being heard before the High Court, in which the plaintiff alleges that the proprietors of a certain sugar beet factory are polluting the water of the River Ouse thereby causing damage to the fish therein, and claims an injunction to restrain them from so doing, I cannot properly make any statement at this stage in answer to the question.

Mr. FREEMAN

Are the powers that the right hon. Gentleman has to deal with river pollution adequate?

Dr. ADDISON

No, Sir.
