§ 50. Dr. HASTINGSasked the Minister of Health the number of clearance schemes, and the number of people proposed to be re-housed by them, that have been sanctioned by his Department since the passage of the Housing and Slum Clearance Act, 1930?
§ Mr. GREENWOOD117 areas in England and Wales, occupied by 24,237 persons, have been declared to be clearance areas under the Housing Act, 1930. These declarations do not require my sanction.
§ Dr. HASTINGSIs my right hon. Friend satisfied with the progress that is being made; and is he doing anything to stimulate local authorities to take advantage of this Act?
§ Mr. GREENWOODI have already explained that I am not satisfied with the progress made, and I shall not be for a very long time; but pressure is being exercised on those local authorities whose programmes do not appear to be commensurate with their needs.
