HC Deb 05 March 1931 vol 249 cc588-9
73. Mr. ROSBOTHAM

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will consider the establishing of a national mark for British potatoes?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Dr. Addison)

I have, for some time, been in consultation with the National Farmers' Union and the organisations representing the distributive trade, with a view to the introduction of a national mark scheme for potatoes, but up to the present it has not been found possible to overcome certain difficulties that have presented themselves.

Captain CROOKSHANK

Will the right hon. Gentleman do anything to guarantee a national market for British potatoes?

Dr. ADDISON

We have a very excellent market, but the unfortunate fact is that the producers do not get a fair share of it.
